Siberian Roebuck in Kurgan and Chelyabinsk area

West Siberia – Kurgan, Chelyabinsk – is considered to be the best area for hunting Siberian Roebuck (capreolus capreolus pygargus), one of the biggest subspecies of Roebucks.

Habitat of Siberian Roebuck is from Southern Ural down to the Far East region of Ussuri. For international hunters it will be subscribed as „Siberian Roe Deer“ at SCI-Record book. Except of some few trophies from Mongolia all the SCI Top-10 trophies are from our areas in Kurgan and Chelyabinsk!

Since more than 20 years we offer our best hunting areas for hunt during the rutting season.

Compare to European Roebuck Siberian Roe deer is much bigger on body and trophy size. Bodies are up to 100 cm tall, with total length up to 150 cm and weight 40 – 50 kg. Siberian Roe Deer have antlers with six points (same as his European relative) with thick bases and wide spread. At the high class trophies it can be 40 – 45 cm tall. It can often happen that you shoot bucks with 8 or 10 points on trophy. The rutting season is between end of August and middle of September.

This is time when we do our best hunt for rutting buck. Hunt in October is also very popular: at this time bucks begin to feed themselves for long winter at the open fields and the hunter has great choices to find a good trophy. Additional preference in October is combination with European moose hunting.

Hunting areas are vast enough to allow using of 4x4 vehicles for spotting, followed by a stalk.

Hunt

Most of the time hunters move in the huge flat ground areas by 4x4 vehicles. If good buck is located, hunter stalks it on foot. Hunter has to be very careful on stalking because Siberian roe deer are spooky. One of the reasons is wolves and other predators. Their senses are much sharper than European roe deers’.

This is why they run long distance to escape from the danger. And sometimes you have to do a very long shot.

Weather can effect the results of the hunt by direct and indirect way. Some years are very dry at spring and at the summer time. As the result there is a low vegetation and better chances to get the roe deer at the fields and clearings. At those years hunting success rate is higher than at the rainy years and afterward higher grass (less animal to see). Hunt from the high seats is practiced at the low forest and swamps – for example in Chelyabinsk area. This kind of hunting can be very productive – as a hunt of confirmed game. Our hunting guides have lot of experience in rating the size of roe buck. But as everywhere in the world hunter is always responsible for his shot! He needs never to make the shot on advice of the PH if he is not sure himself. Because if the buck was shot it must be paid (tag system).
