European bear with Laika dogs

The average weight of bears living in the European part of Russia is 160-170 kg, the length of the skin from the nose to the tip of the tail is 150-180 cm. Some individuals sometimes reach a weight of 300 kg. Thus, in Udmurtia, bears weighing 220-250 kg are hunted annually.

Hunting method: Gamekeepers find fresh bear tracks in the hunting grounds and let dogs (huskies) follow them. When the dogs start working on the discovered animal, the hunter, accompanied by gamekeepers, begins the approach. Upon visual contact, the hunter tries to get the trophy with well-aimed shots without harming the huskies. The effectiveness of this hunt is close to 100%.
