Wild sheep

Sheep, mountain sheep,  stone sheep (Ovis), a genus of mammals of bovids family.

The genus includes from 6 to 20 wild species, taking into account the disunity of habitats and morphological features of the animals. However, studies of mitochondrial DNA reliably distinguish only 2 large groups: mountain sheep and snow sheep. Mountain sheep are divided into 2 clades: mouflon-like, which includes the mouflon (Ovis orientalis or Ovis gmelini) and the urial (Ovis vignei), and argali-like. Snow sheep are also divided into 2 groups: Asian, with a single species, the snow sheep, and American, with two species, the bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) and the Dall sheep (Ovis dalli).
