Caucasus Mountains

There are 3 species of tur in the Caucasus Mountains.
The Dagestan or eastern subspecies of tur (Capra cylindricornis) lives in the eastern part of the Caucasus Mountains, in Azerbaijan, Dagestan and North Ossetia.

Another subspecies, the Kuban or western tur (Capra caucasica dinniki) is found in the western part of the Caucasus. In Karachay-Cherkessia (hunting is open), Krasnodar Krai and Adygea.

In the central part of the Caucasus Mountain Range, in Kabardino-Balkaria, the ranges of the two subspecies intersect. And here a third subspecies has been identified - the Middle Caucasian tur (Capra caucasica caucasica or severtzovi). It is also called the Severtsov tur, named after the biologist who first identified this subspecies.

All three different species of tur belong to Ovis and Carpa World Slams.

Caucasian chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra caucasica) also lives in the Caucasus Mountains.

The highest number of chamois is in the Caucasus Nature Reserve on the territory of the Krasnodar Territory, Adygea and Karachay-Cherkessia. In the territory of Dagestan, North Ossetia and Kabardino-Balkaria, the distribution of chamois is dense, point-like, as a rule, in high-mountain tracts.
